But no one except Lucy knew that as it circled the mast it had whispered to her, “Courage, dear heart,” and the voice, she felt sure, was Aslan’s, and with the voice a delicious smell breathed in her face.
— C.S. Lewis, The Voyage of the Dawn Treader

2016 is turning out to be quite a year! There are no ordinary days in this one.  It takes courage to take risks, to set out in a new direction, leaving familiarity and comfort, going on just a hunch or the tiniest glimmer of desire.  Courage, once required, will be required again. Once I decided to fly in the face of convention,  to insist on authenticity, to hear the loving voice of Papa,  it has inevitably led to more opportunities to practice courage.  I think it becomes a way of living...to find the edge of what's familiar and jump off to be carried by faith and grace. May this be a year of great courage for us all: the courage to love deeply, to start new things, end some others,  maybe it's the year to continue on, to persevere and stick it out.  Where is courage required for you?

I had so much fun (and needed courage) on this shoot with Riaz K.  We played with a Katharine Hepburn-inspired theme. I had amazing help with makeup by the talented Natalie B and hair by my friend and all-around superstar, Audrey Omenson.
